Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner offered an apt description of Chatham Square calling the project “Community Cooperation at its best.” This $150,000 development in Old Town Alexandria is the result of a public/private partnership between the City of Alexandria, the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) and a developer team.
The community features 52 public housing rental unit and 100 for-sale market-rate homes. The design of the facades seamlessly integrates both types of housing, making one type indistinguishable from the other. The site plan resulted in higher density while increasing open space.
Lessard Design engaged in a rigorous vetting process that included the Redevelopment and Housing Authorities, public jurisdictions and civic and neighborhood associations.
